How to Make the Perfect Summer Spritz at Home!

8.07.2020

Summer is here and in full swing! It is HOT in Germany this week and I'm dying! If you're anything like me, you enjoy a refreshing cocktail in the summer that is not only good but cools you down (and pretty!) Well I'm glad you're here, let me introduce you to my summer favorite, the Campari Spritz! An Italian aperitif that's bright and bubbly, and refreshing on a hot day! Today, I'm going to be sharing the recipe for a Campari Spritz and as a bonus I'll be sharing the cousin to the Campari, the Aperol Spritz.

The Campari and Aperol Spritz are both super easy to make with only 3 ingredients. Campari (or Aperol), Prosecco and Club Soda (I also sub sparkling water sometimes depending on what I have on hand). Oh and an orange slice for garnish!

First things first, if you're not familiar, Campari is an Italian liqueur that boasts a deep crimson color. It is bitter in taste but also taste of grapefruit, lemon, mild herbs, lemon and herbs. It is different than the Aperol liqueur because it is more bitter and has a higher alcohol content - so if you don't prefer a bitter taste I'd definitely go with the Aperol Spritz opposed to Campari, as the Aperol is a bit sweeter. Both are good and if you can, I'd try both and see which you like best!

How to drink Campari

Campari and Aperol are aperitifs liqueurs which means you drink before your meal. It is meant to stimulate the appetite and open the palette.

I like to drink my Spritz's out of a big wine glass!

Here's what you'll need:

3 oz Sekt

2 oz Campari (or Aperol)

1 oz (or however much you want) Sparkling water or club soda

Orange slice for garnish

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in your glass with ice cubes. I usually add my Campari (or Aperol) first. Stir to combine it all and garnish with your orange slice!

Summer has arrived! Prost! Salud! Cheers!
