If you follow me on INSTAGRAM you would have seen quite a few clips of an awesome event I had the pleasure to attend this past weekend here in Kansas City, the West 18th Street Fashion Show. It was a great event I must say, and I'm glad I was able to be apart of it. I was able to get a behind the scenes look at the beautiful chaos that happens before a big event like this and I was also able to speak with many from the hair and makeup teams, as well as several designers. This was the 18th year the show has been in production, their Golden Birthday, and the theme was Summer Migration inspired by movement, heritage and history.

Here are some of the makeup looks that I really loved

Leslie Fraley of Fine Folk (read her bio HERE)
I loved the wash of color over the eyes! Leslie wanted the makeup to embody a migrating warrior woman "ready to kick ass" yessss!!

Amani of Skala Designs & Jennifer of J.Tierney Designs (read their bio HERE)
I loved the romantic vibe from this collection. Their hair and makeup was an evolution from old school romantic with structure to messy romantic and finally, to an elegant romantic look. I loved all the dewy finishes and huge dose of highlight!

Nataliya Meyer of LUCIA'S SARTO
I loved loved loved her collection. From makeup to the designs, she was amazing and I was so inspired by her looks. Nataliya's designs were inspired by the military, beautiful but yet strong. The makeup and hair reflected this as well, with complimentary colors and accents and bold beautiful headpieces.

I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Sydney Pener, a Metalsmith, who uses her knowledge and techniques to create stunning one a kind jewelry and artwork. She presented accessories during the closing of the show. You can read her West 18th Street Fashion Show bio HERE

Her pieces were not only stunning, but unique!  Here are a few snippets from our interview.

Q: Tell me about your designs
Sydney: So I'll take antique platters or antique silvers and cut and rework it or rebuild from scratch. My crowns are antique chandelier glass so they are supposed to be about beauty, art, life, much like a higher level ballroom that's been crashed by circumstance - the idea of fleeing. Beautiful decadence.

Q: Where do you find inspiration?
Sydney: I find old objects, like for instance, metal fans made into a crown. I'll find an object and recreate it.

Q: Who are you trying to reach with your designs?
Sydney: I really just feel like people will see something beautiful.

Sydney also uses her  craft for Operation Art, an organization for Veterans. You can check the organization out HERE

So what did I wear? Well I contemplated this for a little bit and was undecided up until the last minute. Since this was the Golden Birthday of the fashion show and the theme was Summer Migration, I wanted to wear something that was dressy, yet simple, chic yet effortless. Something that would also stand out. I chose a beautiful simple, metallic slip dress with simple strappy rose gold heels.

For makeup, I definitely used the Golden Birthday as my inspiration. I decided to go with various shades of gold and bronze on the eye with a pop of color on the lower lash line. If there were ever a time to highlight, this was the night! I bathed in it, ha! I used it not only on my face but also used it on my shoulders, collar bones and décolleté area. I used the Shayla x Colourpop Perception palette on my eyes (review coming soon!).

Here are some other snaps from the show!

Today kicks off Sephora's Annual Beauty Spring Event. This is a good time to stock up on items that you always purchase and use, it's also a great time to buy a few things you may have on your wishlist.

So how does the sale work?
If you're a Sephora Rouge Member you will receive first access to the sale beginning today, April 13 until April 16. You'll be able to get first dibs to many items at 15% off!
So what if you're not a Sephora Rouge member? Don't worry! If you're a Sephora VIB or a Beauty Insider you'll still get access to the sale just at a later date, April 20-23. If you're Sephora VIB you'll receive 15% and Beauty Insiders will receive 10% off. If you're not a Beauty Insider you can sign up easily on their website HERE

I'll be 100% honest, when I hear 15% or 10% I don't get super excited. I believe Sephora does a better sale in the Fall offering up to 25% plus there are other places such as Ulta who sometimes have better deals than this. BUT! A little bit off of something is much better than nothing, especially for those gems that are exclusive to Sephora! I don't think I'll be going super crazy during this sale but rather buying a few things I know I use often and will need to replace soon such as my beauty blender, or maybe one or two items I've been wanting to try but haven't pulled the trigger on. Below, I'm sharing a few products I"ll be picking up, products I've tried and believe are worth the purchase, and also a few new products that may be worth trying during the sale.

Beauty Blender  - I will most likely pick up a new beauty blender - I love to use these for my concealer under my eye!

Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara  - I've been using this mascara for a little over a month now and I absolutely love it!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette - Read my review of this palette HERE

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Longwear Foundation - Read my review of this HERE

House of Lashes Lash Adhesive - This is my favorite lash adhesive!

Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Peel Pads  - These are amazing, I wrote about them in my JANUARY FAVORITES POST

OLEHENRIKSEN Banana Bright Eye Cream - I posted an INSTAGRAM raving about this eye cream, I've only been using it a few weeks but I love it!

OLEHENRIKSEN Find Your Balance Oil Control Cleanser  - I'll be picking this up, I tried this in a sample and I really liked it.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara - I *think* I may finally pick this up and give it a try. Unfortunately, I missed it at Ulta when it was half off, so I may snag it now. Like I mentioned, I haven't tried this, but I hear so many people rave about it, I'm curious!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz - One of my favorite brow pencils!

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder - One of my favorite setting powders, I've used this for a long time!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil  - Love these!

Sephora Collection, Lash Fuse and Curler - I need a new lash curler!

Fenty Beauty Body Lava Body Luminizer - New By Fenty Beauty - I love to use these in the summer to give my body a glow, I'll definitely pick this up!

Ouai Wave Spray - Love using this!

Other Items I have my eye on:

Tip - you can also shop sale on sale. So basically items that may already be on sale -up to 50% off - you can shop the beauty event sale on top of these!

Another tip - I already mentioned how I feel about the sale, I also wanted to throw in that I do advise you to do some research as well before buying anything. I say this because brand websites often offer family and friends sales which can be up to 25% off, so if something you are wanting to purchase is on sale on the brand website you may end up saving more money purchasing it that way.

Are you shopping the sale? What's on your list? Let me know in the comments!
